William married Margaret Morrison, the daughter of James Morrison, Esq. and Margaret Byers of New York City, on Feb. 12, 1863.
William and Margaret had three children,
1. Ernest Rogers, b. June 1864.
2. Morrison Rogers, b. 1870.
3. a daughter, b. Jan. 3, 1873; presumed to have died young.
William was involved in New York City politics during the Tweed administration and unfortunately his printing business, in partnership with his uncle J. Jarvis Jones, suffered by entering into corrupt contracts (i.e. kickbacks) with the "Tweed Ring". It is not understood whether this was just the "cost of doing business" in New York at this period of time, or if Jones and Rogers were equally guilty, participating in the Tweed corruption. In any event, they were fully prosecuted and paid a high price for their involvement.
William died at the age of 62 of pneumonia in New York City, in 1904. His address during the last 14 years of his life was 35 Hancock Place.
