Funeral services for Alta Long, 92, of rural Goose Lake, will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlotte, Iowa, with the Reverend Terry Ellis officiating. Visitation will precede the funeral from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery, Bryant, Iowa. Pallbearers will be Ryan, Corey, Richard, Kenny and Brian Bredekamp and Lindsey Grimm. A memorial fund has been established.Alta Long, 92, died peacefully at her home in rural Goose Lake, Iowa, on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, in the loving care of her family and her beloved dog, Einstein, and Hospice.She was born on October 19, 1916, in rural Goose Lake, Iowa, to Albert and Anna (Lamp) Roenfeldt. On March 10, 1946, she married Harley Long in Charlotte, Iowa.They farmed together in the rural Goose Lake area for 52 years until he died on July 15, 1998, in an automobile accident. She survived the accident and has lived on the farm since that time. She was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlotte, Iowa. She was known for raising poultry for Schlect Hatchery and loved the work. Her favorite pastime was quilt-making but her greatest enjoyment in life was her dogs and family.
