DAVID E. RHODES DEAD
Well Known Citizen of Pleasant Valley Dies While Visiting Daughter Near Dayton. Funeral Tomorrow
David E. Rhodes, a well know[n] retired farmer, died Saturday afternoon at the home of his son-in-law, H. E. Heatwole, near Dayton. He had been ill for about five weeks of the infirmities of age, being stricken while on a visit to the Heatwole place. He made his home with his son John H. Rhodes, of near Pleasant Valley.
Mr. Rhodes was about eighty years old and had spent [p]ractically his entire life in Rockingham County. He was a member of the old order Mennonite Church, and had been one of the deacons in that denomination for the last thirty-seven years. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Fannie Lineweaver, and the second, Mrs. Margaret Driver, both of whom have been dead for a number of years.
Surviving Mr. Rhodes are three children, John H. Rhodes, of Pleasant Valley; Mrs. Mary F. Heatwole, of near Dayton; W. J. Rhodes, of Ottawa, Illinois; and three step-daughters, Mrs. George Etter, of Waynesboro; Mrs. Dan Martin and Miss Lizzie Driver, of Stuarts Draft. He also leaves two brothers, Fred Rhodes, of Harrisonburg, and John Rhodes, of near Pleasant Valley.
Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning from the Fairview Mennonite Church, near Dayton. Services will be conducted by Rev. J. D. Wenger. Interment will be in the Early cemetery, near Pleasant Valley.
