MRS. CARPENTER, LONG RESIDENT OF MOBERLY, DIES
Mrs. David F. Carpenter, 86, a resident of Moberly for 75 years, died at 11:15 o'clock last night at her home, 315 South Williams street. She had been ill the past year and one-half.
She is survived by a daughter, Miss Hortense Carpenter, and a son, Dr. J. C. Carpenter, both of the home.
Mrs. Carpenter was born in Ralls county and came here in 1876. The jewelry store now owned by her son was established in 1871 by the late J. W. King. D. F. Carpenter came here in 1872 as a watchmaker in the store, buying Mr. King's interest in 1896. It was then located at 213 West Reed street and was moved to its present location in 1917.
Mr. Carpenter died 31 years ago yesterday. Mrs. Carpenter remembered the first mayor of Moberly, and her brother, C. B. Rodes, was first city clerk.
She was a member of Tabitha Walton Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution and also of Coates Street Presbyterian church.
The body is at the home, where funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow after noon by Dr. Allen Duncan, pastor of the Coates street church. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.
