Russell H. Robertson, of Evanston, passed away at his home Aug. 22, 2012, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Evanston on Jan. 28, 1960, to Vern Robertson and Virginia Keyes. After completing high school, he married the love of his life, Nancy Caldwell, on July 15, 1978 in Evanston.

He was a man of many trades, but his lifetime interest was trucks. He started Robertson Trucking in 1987 and Robertson Transportation in 2000, with his wife and children helping to build it into the successful business it is today. He worked for Ellingford Brothers and then went to the city of Evanston, where he became the street department supervisor, which he later left in 1993 to run his trucking company full time.

He continued to build his dream for the remainder of his life. He was a volunteer fire fighter for many years, but gave that up to pursue his dream of having his own business. He also did upholstery for about eight years, while running his trucking company.

His love for his wife, children and grandchildren was the most important thing in his life. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family, whom he adored. Riding motorcycles, hunting, camping and boating were some of his interests. Fabricating his own shops and helping to build his children's homes were among many of his accomplishments. His talents were many, but the love of his family was his greatest joy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; two sons, John (Autumn) Robertson and Ryan Robertson; daughter Michelle (Robert) Walk; mother, Virginia Robertson; brothers Vern (Peggy) Robertson and Richard (Barbara) Robertson; sisters Colleen (Jim) Roberts, Terry Brimhall (Herb Weston), Sharon (John) Lesniak and Cheryl (Aaron) Shepherd; and seven granchildren, Andrew, Alexis, Brayton, Kaycen, Kinzley, Kamrey and Austin.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Vern Robertson; his father-in-law, to whom he was very close, Vince Caldwell; and his grandparents from both sides, Maxwell and Sarah Robertson, and Harry and Elsie Keyes.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 27, at 11 a.m. at Crandall Funeral Home. Friends may call on Sunday, Aug. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior on Monday.

Interment will be in the Evanston City Cemetery.
