EMMITT ROBERTS

Emitt V. Roberts, sixty-eight, of Kirksville, died about 11:00 Wednesday morning, May 2, in a Kirksville hospital. Mr. Roberts had been in failing health the last year. He had been hospitalized most of that period and had been seriously ill the past several months.

He was born in southern Adair County, February 5, 1894, the son of Mose and Rebecca (Tuttle) Roberts.

On March 3, 1920, at Illinois Bend Church, he was married to Helen Marquith and to this marriage five children were born.

On January 23, 1954, in Kirksville, he was married to Ada Comstock.

Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Cleo (Joan) Gilliland of New London, Iowa, Mrs. Arlie Becker of El Monte, California and Mrs. Donald (Twila) Thompson; two sons, Emitt Ray Roberts and Gordon Lane Roberts of McHenry, Illinois; two brothers, Elmer D. Roberts of Kirksville and Roy Roberts of Muscatine, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren; four step-sons, Lester Comstock of Madison, Wisconsin, Carl Comstock of Montrose, Iowa, John Comstock of Davenport, Iowa and Roy Comstock of Manhatten Beach, California; seven step-grandchildren and one uncle, Allen Roberts of Belleflower, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife on November 29, 1952, and one brother dying in infancy.

Mr. Roberts served overseas in France during World War I and had been a member of MacDougall Lowe Post No. 20 for the past thirty years. He was a member of the Christian Church in La Plata.

Mr. Roberts spent most of his life farming in Adair County except for the period of World War II when he was employed in an ordnance Plant at Burlington, Iowa.

Foster Memorial Home was in charge. Funeral services were Friday at 1:30 p.m. with burial in the La Plata Cemetery.
