PEORIA - Gordon N. Roberts, 84, formerly of 1427 W. Marlene and Yates City died 7 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at Snyder Village in Metamora. Born Sept. 3, 1913, in Yates City to Adam J. and Florence Nash Roberts, he married Dorothy McGill on April 13, 1974, in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are one step-daughter, Sharon DeMar of Tulsa, Okla.; and three step-grandsons. One infant sister preceded him in death. He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 37 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 974 and Caterpillar Retirees and its Golf Club. He was a life member of Peoria Senior Golf Association. He was a member of the National Wildlife Federation and a volunteer driver for the American Red Cross. He was a former member of Peoria City/County Animal Welfare Board and served two terms as Yates City village clerk. He was a member of Yates City Masonic Lodge 4448, AF & AM; Eureka Chapter 98 of the Royal Arch Masons, where he served as high priest; and Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria. He was a member of Dayton Avenue Baptist Church, where he was an at-large council member and usher. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at his church. The Rev. Dr. Paul Smith, and the Revs. Jim Richardson and John Daniels will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Burial will be Wednesday at Hickory Hill Cemetery in Broughton. Memorials may be made to his church or the Carmi Children's Home.
