Kathleen Roane, called Kate, was a daughter of Simeon M. Roane and his wife Alice Fox, of Mississippi. She married Eugene Cross, Sr. (1873-1942, son of John Cross and Sarah Shotwell) also of Mississippi. Miss Kate's sister, Miss Lila, married Mr. Eugene Cross' brother, Mr. U. E. Cross.
Mr. Eugene Cross came from Mississippi to Marion, NC in the early 1900s, and founded the Cross Cotton Mill. He and Miss Kate lived in a large home on N. Main Street which, sadly, has since been demolished. They were members of the Methodist Church.
