Olive Blackburn, 97, passed away September 18, 2008, at her home at the Vista at Mission Ridge in Billings, Montana. She was born April 10, 1911 in Manheim, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Howard and Emma (Erb) Ritter. She received her degree from Westchester State Teachers College. She married Walter "Bud" William Blackburn in Lancaster County, PA, on July 28, 1938. Mrs. Blackburn dedicated her life to children and their education. She combined her love of children and learning by parenting her two children and teaching in the Manheim Central school system. Olive enjoyed the quest of knowledge herself, too, especially of history and other cultures. She and her daughter Suzanne toured the world including India, Japan and Europe. She considered scaling the Great Wall of China as one of her most memorable accomplishments. Other interests included knitting, crossword puzzles and dining out with family and friends. Olive was a consummate bridge player. In 1995, Olive moved to Billings, Montana to be closer to family, which include daughter Suzanne Sandridge of Billings and son Bill (Toots) Blackburn of Bozeman, Montana. Survivors also include two grandchildren, Lisa Moore and Jeff (Seana) Sandridge of Billings and three great-grandchildren, Carter and Hanna Moore and Wolfgang Sandridge. She was preceded in death by her husband Bud in 1985; and son-in-law Michael Sandridge in 2004. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held in Manheim, Pennsylvania at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Ministry Fund at Mission Ridge/Vista, 3840 Rimrock Rd., or the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are in the care of Dahl Funeral Chapel.
