Aileen Christina Ringling, 86, of Fort Madison died at 2:24 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at her home. Born April 1, 1923, in Chicago, she was the daughter of Robert Rowlain and Myrtle Ilene Gates Mustell. In April 1962, she married James C. Ringling in Chicago. He died Dec. 3, 2004. Mrs. Ringling worked with the circus beginning in 1940. She was an aerialist and performed equestrian acts in several circuses, including Pollack Brothers, Ringling Brothers and Shrine Circus. She worked as a Rockette dancer at Radio City Music Hall in New York. In 1972, she moved to Fort Madison. She was a member of Holy Family Parish in Fort Madison. She enjoyed raising exotic animals. Survivors include two sons, Christopher Ringling of Mililani, Hawaii, and Charles Ringling of Richmond Hill, Ga.; one daughter, Lucretia Ringling of Carmichael, Calif.; one brother, Gabriel R. "Doc" Mustell of St. Joseph, Mich.; one sister, Lucretia Moore Hoepfner of Sarasota, Fla.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and three brothers. Visitation will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today at Barr Memorial Chapel in Fort Madison where family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.. A Christian wake service will be at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Ringling will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at SS. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Madison with the Rev. Troy Richmond officiating. Private burial will be in the family mausoleum out-of-state. Memorials have been established for the Kensington and PAWS Animal Shelter.
