Oct. 1, 1920 — Dec. 21, 2004
Marie (Rinehart) Blaylock of Prairie City died Dec. 21 at her home after a very short illness. There was a private family memorial.
Mrs. Blaylock was born Oct. 1, 1920, to Effie Paine Rinehart and Walter Rinehart. She spent her early childhood in the John Day area. She graduated from Grant Union High School in 1937. She was an excellent student and loved to read and write poetry. She never lost her love of reading.
Marie and her twin sister, Marian, loved fishing. They fished from daylight to dark. When not fishing they'd be out running and enjoying life with their little sister, Betty, tagging along.
After a divorce and a move to Lebanon, Marie married Ben Blaylock on Oct. 1, 1953. They raised Marie's daughter, Nicki, and Ben's daughter, Bonnie, and his son, Pete. They had a small farm near Scio and raised special sheep, goats and livestock and sold wool to local weavers. Marie tanned hides and made sheepskin and goatskin rugs. She made wines, sour dough bread, cheeses and smoked turkey and game.
She moved back to Grant County in the spring of 2000.
