Evangelist Valerie Rich Dixon, age 45, passed from labor to reward Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at the Common Wealth University Medical Center in Richmond, Va.
The native of Bulloch County resided in Virginia since April 2007. She was a graduate of the Statesboro High School class of 1980, attended Georgia Southern College and the Milton-Solomon Bennett Bible Institute. She was a former employee of Georgia Southern University, having worked in the Housing Department and the Continuing Education Building. Mrs. Dixon also served as a parent liaison for the Department of Family and Children Services and contractor for Christian Education at Ft. Stewart, Ga.
At an early age, she became a member of the Stevens Temple Church of Christ, under the leadership of Rev. Paul Stevens. Her work in the church included youth leader, Youth Choir director, Sunday School teacher and church musician. She also participated in the Georgia State Church of Christ Holiness Choir (HUL). She later united with the Agape Worship Center of Statesboro under the leadership of Bishop Anthony Chavers. There she worked faithfully also in the prison ministry, radio ministry and served as a new members teacher.
Evangelist Dixon participated with the Betty Florence Foundation and the Africa on Fire Mission, in which she pilgrimaged to Africa on several occasions. She and her husband, Calvin, also ministered together in the country of Ireland.
Those left to cherish loving memories include a loving husband, Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Calvin Gladney Dixon, Ft. Eustis, Va.; loving mother, Mrs. Letha Mae Rich, Statesboro; mother-in-law, Mrs. Louise Outlaw, Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary (Anthony) Bush, Great Lakes, Ill. and Evangelist Brenda Rich, Statesboro; six brothers, Elder and Mrs. Sylvester (Wilhelmina) Grant, Bronx, N.Y., Mr. John Bennett, Hardwick, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Dennis (Angel) Bennett, Statesboro, Mr. and Mrs. Roy (Helen) Rich, Evans, Ga., Mr. Theodore Rich, Statesboro; a brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel (Angela) Latta III, Columbia, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Willie (Curtis) Greene, Baltimore, Md.; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The Homegoing service for Evangelist Valerie Rich Dixon will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2008, at the Agape Worship Center, 810 West Grady Street Ext., with Bishop Moses Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.
