Deceased Name: C. S. RICH
1923 ~ 2006
Cleo S. Rich , of Lapoint, Utah, departed this world for her next grand adventure on November 26, 2006. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Her husband, Bob, and all of her children grieve her loss while being comforted that she has transitioned to a new and brighter dominion.
Cleo possessed a quiet kindness towards others as well as a zest for life exemplified by her love of the outdoors. She will be remembered for her wild rides on the white water of the western rivers, her expertise with a hunting rifle, quiet walks through the woods and cinnamon rolls. Her greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren. She prepared them for life, instilling in them a fierce independence that she modeled every day of her life. She celebrated each of their successes no matter how small, and felt ten-fold each of their missteps but was confident in their ability to come through stronger and happier as she had done through the many adversities of her life.
She was born on February 9, 1923 at home in Vernal, Utah to George Gilbert Smuin and Nellie Ray Slaugh Smuin . Her first husband, Glenn Stephen Paulson died in Germany during occupation following WWII--leaving her alone to raise 6 small children. She later married Dezra Pitt and they had a daughter, Joyce Ann, and he too passed away. On September 1, 1967, She Married Robert "Bob" Rich in Elko, Nevada—they were later sealed in the Provo LDS Temple.
Most of her child rearing days were spent in Jensen, Utah. She served for some time as the Jensen Postmistress, was active in the Ladies American Legion Auxiliary, and spent some years living on the old Paulson Ranch. Cleo enjoyed outdoor activities, and along with her husband and sisters, was an avid deer hunter.
She was preceded in death by her two aforementioned husbands, Glenn Stephen Paulson and Dezra Pitt, two sons, J H and Robert Dee Paulson, two stepsons, Terry Pitt and Bobby Rich , and two brothers, Dennis George and Sherrill Eugene Smuin .
Surviving her are her Husband, Robert "Bob" Rich , daughters Glenda (James) Knight, Ila Rae (Jim) Hogue, and Joyce Ann (Claud) Sims, two sons, Stephen D (Gloria) and Larry G (Shirley) Paulson, daughter-in-law Shirley Erickson Gardiner. She has the following stepdaughters, Brenda Rich Denman, LeAnne (Leon) Noel, Kelly (Clay) Simmons, stepsons, Alan (Glenda) Rich , Shayne Rich , and Jerry (Deborah) Rich . Sisters are Vera Billings Ainge, Gilda White Boren, Wanda (Bob) Nation, Brothers, Austin Ray, Robert Lyle, and Sharon Dean Smuin . There are 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
