MISS KATE RICE DIES AFTER
SEVERAL WEEKS ILLNESS
Funeral services for Miss Kate Rice, member of an old and prominent Northwest Arkansas family, who died Wednesday morning, Jan. 15th, 1936, at the home of her sister, Mrs. R.C. Hill of Rogers, where she had been ill for the past two weeks, are being held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at Buttram's Chapel, near Pea Ridge, conducted by the Rev. J.L. Shelby, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, at Pea Ridge, with the Brightwater Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Masonic woman's auxiliary of which Miss rice had long been a member, having a part in the services.
Interment will be in the chapel cemetery with the Callison Funeral Service in charge of funeral arrangements.
Miss Rice was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Rice and was reared at their old home about a mile south of the historic old Elkhorn Tavern. For a number of years she was prominent amount the business women of Rogers, Ark., and was widely known throughout Eastern Benton County.
Beside her parents she is survived by the one sister, Mrs. Hill of Rogers, and by four brothers, Walter Rice of Springfield, Mo., Harry Rice of Norton, Kan., Dot Rice of Flangran, Colo., and Radius Rice of Garfield, Ark., all of whom are present today for the funeral. She was a niece of Attorney Chas. M. Rice of Bentonville and Roland M. Rice of near Garfield. Other relatives include a number of cousins, among whom are Mrs. Tom McNeil and Mrs. Pearl Ball of Rogers, Mrs. Edward T. Breedlove of Alice, Texas, Hugh Rice of Chicago. Attorney Dick Rice of Miami, Okla., Attorney Jeff R. Rice of Bentonville, and Mrs. R.C. Harris of near Garfield.
Miss Rice had been critically ill for several weeks and after treatment at a Springfield, Mo. Hospital and else where had recently gone to Rogers to be nearer the family physician there.
