Evelyn Frances Batterman, 93, of Dayton, passed away, Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at her home. She had been failing in health for just over a year.
She was born in Rockingham County, on March 8, 1918, and was a daughter of the late John Lewis and Sadie (Weaver) Rhodes.
Evelyn was a member of Peake Mennonite Church. She graduated from Dayton High School.
She was united in marriage to Levi M. Batterman on Dec. 17, 1941, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Susan B. Rodes and husband, Elden, of Mount Crawford; six grandchildren, Christie Rhodes and husband, Linden, Kevin Knicely, Bryan Rodes, Craig Rodes, Valerie Good and Gloria Rodes; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn B. Good; two sons-in-law, Fred H. Knicely and Glen G. Good; a sister, Katharine L. Rhodes; and brother, Frankin J. Rhodes.
A funeral service will be held at Pike Mennonite Church, Harrisonburg, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, with Ministers of the Peake Mennonite Church officiating. Burial will follow at Pike Mennonite Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 1:30 until 2:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at Pike Mennonite Church.
