Joie Akins of Old Maple Creek Rd., Williamsburg, Kentucky departed this life on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Somerset Nursing & Rehab Center, Somerset, Kentucky. She was 87 years, 8 months, and 9 days of age. She was born on July 24, 1926 in Whitley County, Kentucky to the late Sam Reynolds and Mary Elizabeth Vanderpool Reynolds. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward E. Akins; sons, Edward Wayne Akins and Kenny Akins. She was a charter member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.


She is survived by three sons, Rev. Dana Akins (wife Charlotte) of London, Kentucky, Gary Akins (Wife Janie) of London, Kentucky, and Kerry Akins (wife Tammy) of Somerset, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Daryl Wayne Akins, Kenny Brian Akins, Evan Akins, Rebecca Akins, Katie Bales, Rachel Akins, and Adam Akins; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Tageart of Ashland, Kentucky; special friends, Shirley and E.J.; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.



Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Saturday, April 05, 2014 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel.


The Funeral Service will be at 5:00 P.M. Saturday, April 05, 2014 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Rose and Rev. Johnny Partin officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Akins Cemetery on Bee Creek Road, Corbin, Kentucky.
