Margaret Lee Rew was born in Onancock on Virginia's Eastern Shore on Nov. 30, 1917, to the late Carson and Pearl Rew.
Margaret graduated salutatorian from Onancock High School in 1935. Upon graduation, she relocated to the Peninsula where she resided until her passing.
Margaret was a proud and devoted member of Denbigh Baptist Church. She was head bookkeeper of the former Broadway Department Store in Newport News for many years. Her love for her family and animals was evidenced by her kind, giving, and loving ways.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Elliott Stuart Gay, and her brother, William Greenwood Rew.
Margaret leaves to cherish her memories her children, Joyce Wynne Dick and her husband, Bob; Robert M. Wynne; grandchildren, Robert Murray Dick III and Cynthia Lee Barnes; and great-grandchildren, Lindsey Wilson, and Tristin and Kaylee Barnes. Also, a special thank you to Margaret's dear and supportive friend, Nancie Eure.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the loving and caring staff at Morningside of Newport News, especially Debbie Mughrabi and Evon Smith.
A graveside service celebrating her life will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, June 20, in Peninsula Memorial Park by Dr. David Wilson.
