Woman Takes Her Life in Franklin
MIDDLETOWN -- The death of Mrs. Gertrude Retherford, 51, of 123 West Seventh Street, Franklin, was ruled a suicide yesterday (Dec 3 1958) by Dr. Garret J. Boone, Butler County coroner. Dr. Boone ruled in the case since Mrs. Retherford was brought to Middletown Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The coroner said she died of a shotgun wound in the left side of the chest. His investigation disclosed she had been despondent because of ill health. Dr. Boone said she fired the gun by tying a string around the trigger, looping it around the butt of the gun, and pulling the string. The body was discovered lying in the living room of the home by a cousin, Mrs. Deltha Retherford, 26 South River Street, Franklin. Surviving are her husband, Charles; her mother, Mrs. Betty Taylor of Owsley County, KY; three daughters, Mrs. Hazel Combs, Mrs. Ethel Creager and Mrs. Etta Gray, all of Franklin; six sons, Marion of Miamisburg; Raymond of Cincinnati; William G. of Mason, and Dallas, John and Danny, all of Franklin; seven brothers and five sisters. Services and burial will be in Clay County, KY. Friends may call at the Robert Eaton Funeral Home, Franklin, from 4-9pm today (Dec 4 1958)
