Longtime Gulliver, Mich., resident Carol J. Leny, 78, died at her home in Doyle Township following a brief illness.

She was the daughter of Merton and Mildred (Farley) Reno and moved to Manistique as a child. She attended St. Francis de Sales School and was a graduate of Manistique High School with the Class of 1956.

On Sept. 6, 1958, the former Carol J. Reno married Robert C. Leny at the St. Francis de Sales Church in Manistique.

They made their home and raised their family in Gulliver and Bob preceded her in death on July 5, 2016.

Carol was employed for several years as the branch supervisor of the State of Michigan Secretary of State office in Manistique. She retired in 1991.

She was a lifetime member of the St. Francis de Sales Church of Manistique.

Carol enjoyed doing needlework, reading, going to garage sales, and playing cards, especially Bridge. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family and spending the summers with Bob and their children, and grandchildren, at their cottage on Thunder Lake.

Carol is survived by her children, Sharon (Bart Jonker) Benedict, Ronald (Carrie) Leny, Allen (Nancy) Leny and Lt. Col. Ret. Larry (Darcy) Leny; grandchildren, Nicole (fiance Dennis Gruetzmacher) Leny, Brandon Benedict, Juliann Leny, Katie Leny, Curtis Leny, Robert Leny, Patrick Leny, Alyssa Sebesky, and Alex Sebesky; her siblings, Roseann Stahl, and William (Barbara) Reno; along with nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Reno.

Visitation at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis de Sales Church in Manistique with Father Ben Paris officiating. Burial in the Fairview Cemetery.
