Mrs. Ovid A. Byers, Seattle Pioneer, Dies
Mrs. Ellen Reid Byers, age 82 years, who came to Seattle from the Midwest in 1889 to teach school, died yesterday after a long illness. Her husband, Seattle attorney, Ovid A. Byers died in 1926.
Mrs. Byers was a native of Illinois and taught at the old Denny School until her marriage in 1897. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. For 40 years she had lived at 2100 East Galer Street, entering a nursing home at 9005 Roosevelt Way last year.
Survivors are a son, Marshall S. Byers of Brunswick, Georgia; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy (William J.) McGee of Seattle and three granddaughters, Elizabeth, Eleanor and Marcia Byers, all of Seattle.
