Mrs. Garrett died Saturday, Oct. 24.2009

She was born on June 19, 1926, in the city of Orangeburg, a daughter of the late Leon and Gurdie Odom Reed.

She attended the public schools of Orangeburg. Mrs. Garrett was a retired cook at Herbert's Grill. Patrons came from far and near to enjoy her meals and precious smile. At an early age, Mrs. Viola accepted Christ at her Lord and Savior. She then joined the Church of God in Christ, with later changed to Greater Miracle Temple Worship Center C.O.G.I.C., where she served faithfully until her health declined. Mrs. Viola was the mother of the church and a true warrior for Christ.

Mrs. Garrett was the virtuous woman spoken of in Proverbs 31. She truly gave unselfishly to her family, friends, and she was devoted, loving, and caring mother, daughter, sister, and friend.

Those who preceded her in death are a son, Dennis Garrett; five siblings, Leroy Reed, James Reed, Maria Dolson, Virine Adderly, and Felicia Taylor.

Those left to share in her legacy of Christian love are her husband, Charles Garrett Sr. of Philadelphia; two sons, Charles (Gloria) Garrett Jr. of Orangeburg and Jerry (Jacqueline) Garrett of Orangeburg; two sisters, Adele Reed of New York and Emma Louise Brooks of Boston; three brothers, Walter Reed of Ocala, Fla., Johnnie Reed of Charleston and Thaddeus Reed of Charleston; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
