CUMBERLAND,MARYLAND — John Francis Redhead, 73, of Cumberland, went to be with his Lord on Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, surrounded by his family at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 14, 1935, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late John W. Redhead and Lottie F. (Perdew) Redhead. Mr. Redhead was also preceded in death by six sisters; three brothers, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

John attended Fort Hill High School and was a United States Air Force veteran. He also served in the National Guard and retired from Kline's Furniture Store in 1997. John was an avid football fan and coached the local C.A.Y.F.L., and little league football teams for 16 years. He was also the lead singer and guitar player with the band "Plain Ole Country" for many years.

John is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Elizabeth (Bunner) Redhead; his sons, John A. Redhead and his wife Carla, of Cumberland, and Melvin Redhead and his fiancée Leigh Wright, of Easton; and his daughter, Ellen L. Redhead and her fiancé Jose Vargas, of Cumberland. John is also survived by three grandchildren, Adam Redhead and Brittney Redhead, both of Cumberland, and Eliza Redhead, of Easton; his great-granddaughter, Makiah Redhead, of Cumberland; as well as three stepgrandchildren and five great-stepgrandchildren. John also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Helen (Bunner) Campbell, of Cumberland; his sister-in-law, Karen Cartwright and her husband Jimmy, of Oldtown; his brother-in-law, Paul Bunner and his wife Freda, of Cumberland; along with numerous nieces;, nephews; cousins, and close friends.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.

Interment will be at the Maryland State Veterans' Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
