Vera Ready Greene, 78, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born Nov. 29, 1922, in Murfreesboro, she was the daughter of Willie Thomas Ready and Hattie Bell Peyton Ready.
Mrs. Greene was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She was also active with the Oak Ridge Visual Support Group.
She was the widow of Henry T. Greene Jr., who died in 1996.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Greene Knight and her husband, Mack R. Knight, of Oak Ridge; three sisters, Laura Elam Zarth of Murfreesboro, Rachel Wood and her husband, Tom King Wood, of Readyville, and Delorese Ready Caffy of LaVergne; two grandchildren, Jason R. Knight and Ashley E. Knight, both of Oak Ridge; a brother-in-law, Frank W. Greene and his wife, Jean, of Greeneville; and a sister-in-law, Helen Ruth Jones and her husband, Ralph, of Morristown.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Greene was preceded in death by her son, Charles R. Greene, who died in 1975, and by a brother, Eugene Ready, who died in 1997.
The funeral will be held at noon Thursday, Aug. 9, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with Dr. Larry Dipboye officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the American Lung Association, 212 S. Peters Road, Suite 106, Knoxville, TN 37923.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at the mortuary.
