Avery Nell Gipson (1938-2011)


A celebration of life for Mrs. Avery Nell Gipson, 73, of Van Alstyne, will be at 11 a.m., on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at Greywood Heights Church, 352 Sanford Cir., Van Alstyne. Paul Gipson will officiate; Rev. S.T. Gipson Jr. will do the eulogy. Following the service, Mrs. Gipson will be laid to rest at Van Alstyne Cemetery.

Avery Nell was born to the parentage of Clifton and L.E. Ratcliff on October 29, 1938. Later in life, she met and married S.T. Gipson, with whom she raised a family, to include five beloved sons.

Early in life Avery accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and always kept God first. She loved her sons and bragged on them often. For many years, she dedicated herself as a health care provider, offering her love and helping hand to others that may have been sick or in need. Avery was a faithful and active member of the Rising Sun Church in Van Alstyne, where she remained until God called her home.

She passed away peacefully at home with family on November 18, 2011, from this life to eternal life with the Lord.

Preceding Avery in death are her husband, S.T. Gipson Sr., her parents, and brother, Harris Lee Ratcliff.

She leaves behind to celebrate her life sons, Samuel Gipson ( fianceé, Treeta Mcghee) of Dallas, S.T. (Vicki) Gipson Jr. and Paul (Unitta) Gipson both of Sherman, Timothy (Jenny) Gipson of Little Elm, and special son, Adam Gipson of Van Alstyne; grandchildren, Timothy Gipson Jr., John Gipson, Christian Gipson, Christopher Murphy, John Murphy, Kaylyn Gipson, Tanisha Briggs; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Ratcliff of Frisco, Roosevelt Ratcliff of Denver, Colorado, William Ratcliff (Dorothy) and Andrew Ratcliff both of Van Alstyne, R.C. (Lynn) Ratcliff of Tuscon, Arizona; sisters, Velma Williams and Berniece Roberts, both of Van Alstyne, Elizabeth Herbert of Sherman, Rose (Martinez) Crammer or McKinney; brother-in-law, P.J. (Flora) Gipson, and a host of nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts and friends.

Visitation is noon -6 p.m. Friday, November 25 with the family receiving friends from 6 - 7 p.m., at Cravens Funeral Home, 225 W. Brockett St., Sherman.
