Doris Grace Skinner Randle, 93, died in Houston on June 9, 2007, after a short hospitalization as a result of a stroke on May 4. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 16 at the Lakewood United Methodist Church, 2443 Abrams Road, Dallas, Texas.

Doris was born in Athol, Mass. and at age seven, in 1920, her family drove from Massachusetts to Texas. The trip took two years to make because of economic hardship, and the lack of adequate roadways and bridges. During World War II, Doris served as a pilot for the Civil Air Patrol looking for foreign submarines off the Texas Gulf coast while living in Houston. Rrom 1950 to 1975, she hosted Young Life groups in her Dallas home on Avalon. Additionally, Doris was very active in PTA organizations and activities throughout her children's years in Lakewood, Lipscomb and Woodrow Wilson.

Doris lived a wonderful full life. Her love of dancing with her Waco dance clubs kept her in great health until her stroke. Even when she broke her hip at age 90, she was back dancing in eight weeks. A year later, she fell down a flight of 15 steps yet bounced right back dancing the following week. What a strong lady!

When she wasn't dancing, Doris was lending her full support to her favorite football team as she was a life-long, avid Dallas Cowboy fan.

She was a super mom and grandparent, always there to help and support in good times and bad. She will be missed by all her family and friends. Her memory will live in all our hearts.

She was preceded in death by a son, Dick Skinner; first husband, Jimmy Skinner; and second husband, John Randle.

She is survived by sons, Jim Skinner, of Las Vegas, John Skinner and wife, Marti, of Garland; daughters, Annette Skinner Williams, of Friendswood, and Pinky Skinner McLaughlin and husband, Harry, of Houston; 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
