In addition to her three sons (who were by her side when she died) Kate Raines Kessler also had one daughter, named Helen Margaret Kessler. Helen died in a flu epidemic in 1927 and therefore could not attend her mother’s last moments nor her burial.

Helen M. Kessler (b. 1893) married Professor Theodore Whidden Gibson in 1919 and they had two children – son Theodore W. Gibson (jr) ( b. 1920) and daughter Margaret Kessler Gibson (b. 1923).

1) Kate’s son was John Rissel, not Bissel as stated in the obituary.
2) Kate was born in 1871 and died in 1938, she was obviously 67 years old, not “85” as written in the text.

Canandaigua, N. Y. - Mrs. Kate Raines Kessler, 66, native Canandaiguan, died of heart trouble Wednesday in her home in Philadelphia. She was the youngest daughter of the late Senator John Raines and Catherine Wheeler Raines, Canandaigua, and was educated in the Canandaigua and Rochester schools. Since her marriage to John H. Kessler, she had lived in Canandaigua. Surviving are the husband, and three sons, Raines, J. Rissel and Edwin L. Kessler, Philadelphia; also two brothers, John and George R. Raines, Rochester; and two sisters, Mrs. William E. Sylvester and Mrs. William H. Welch, Canandaigua. The body will be brought to Canandaigua where committal services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Woodlawn Chapel with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
