Attorney. Born to Colonel John and Elizabeth (nee Norton). He inherited the family property on Mount Wollaston along Quincy Bay, south of Boston. A tragic figure, he was said to be Abigail Smith Adam's favorite uncle. At 29 he married Martha Salisbury on 12 February 1746. She died within the first year of the marriage. His deep mourning turned him into a recluse for the rest of his life. He is mention in the letters of Abigail and her husband, who were visitors at Mount Wollaston.
