Ruth was employed for 10 years in the Central School lunchroom. She also supported her husband, Pete, in the operation of his businesses. She was member of the Meridianville Church of Christ.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon "Pete" Atchley Sr.; her parents, Ellen and Leslie Pylant; her brother, Robert Pylant; and her daughters, Martha Jane Atchley and Karon Pyle.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday November 10, 2016 at 3 pm at Shiloh UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12 pm to 2 pm at Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville.
