Birth: Oct. 20, 1844
Virginia, USA
Death: Feb. 3, 1923
Asheville

North Carolina, USA

Mattie was the daughter of Temperance Dougherty and James Purvis. She married James Albright on 20 Jun 1865 and they had three children, only one of whom was living in 1900.

An edited obituary extract from the Winston-Salem Journal, dated February 6, 1923, related that: Mrs. James W. Albright, pioneer resident of Asheville, had died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.C. Chambers. Mrs. Albright was 79 years of age and had been a resident of Asheville for 31 years and was widely known and loved for the interest she always took in the civic, religious and moral upbuilding of the community. As Miss Mattie Purvis before marriage, she was well known in Virginia where she was born near Pervis station, and quite a belle during her young girlhood. The body was sent to Greensboro shortly afterward for burial in that place.
