Virginia Lee Barton, 86, died Monday, June 12, 2006, at Graham Oaks Healthcare Center. Graveside services were held Friday, June 16, at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey, Ill., under the direction of Gent's Funeral Home in Alton, Ill.

Mrs. Barton was born Oct. 11, 1919, to Everett and Gertie Pulliam of Eldorado, Ill. She graduated from Eldorado High School in 1935 and married John Carlos "J.C." Barton on Jan. 15, 1937. In 1944, they moved to Godfrey, Ill., where she was a homemaker and clerical worker for Alton Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Berean Bible Church in Alton. She moved to Graham in 1999.

She is survived by one daughter, Judith Carol Meisenheimer and husband James of Graham; one son, John E. Barton and wife Svetlana of Ellicott City, Md.; one granddaughter, Kim Whitsitt and husband Jack of Archer City; one grandson, Nizami Barton of Ellicott; one great-grandson, Jon Whitsitt of Archer City; and three sisters, Sue Downey of Godfrey, Betty Scoggins and husband Frank of Austin, and Jane Dailey and husband Michael of Frisco.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Barton; her parents, Everett and Gertie Pulliam; one sister, Dorothy Pulliam Miller and her stepmother, Alma Pulliam.
