Ardella I. Jarrett
Ardella I. "Butch" Jarrett, 84, a New Castle resident, joined her devoted husband in God's presence Saturday, February 20, 2010. She was a patient at Henry County Hospital and was ill for a brief time.
She was born August 12, 1925, in West Baden, Ind., a daughter of the late Lawrence and Letha McCracken Prosser. She attended New Castle High School and was a resident of New Castle most of her life.
She was a member of Spiceland United Methodist Church and a former member of New Castle Order of Eastern Star No. 116 and the Elks and Moose lodges. She and her husband owned and operated Jarrett's Grocery Store on 18th Street in New Castle for 32 years.
Ardella treasured her employees and customers and viewed them as her extended family. She was very involved with her family's activities and loved sharing time with them. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother and was very devoted to her family.
She was a licensed instructor of ceramics and taught ceramics at home. She enjoyed sewing, woodworking and art.
The following family members are left to cherish her memory: two daughters, Barbara Fadely of New Castle and Linda Ballenger (husband Sam) of North Vernon; six grandchildren, Margie Carter (husband Tim) of Lewisville, Ind., Marty Freeman (wife Jen) of Lowell, Stephen Fadely (wife Justina) of Muncie, Michael Ballenger (wife Billie) of North Vernon, Kelly Kopitzke of North Vernon and Jill Marcoux (husband Joe) of Ellettsville; 11 great-grandchildren, Jessica of North Vernon, Daniel of North Vernon, Rodger of North Vernon, Cory of North Vernon, Kaitlyn of North Vernon, Ashley of Ellettsville, Abby of Ellettsville, Tim of Lewisville, Amanda of Lewisville, Jarrett of Lowell and Chole of Lowell; one sister, Patricia Munn of LaPorte; one brother, Kenneth Prosser (wife Carol) of New Castle; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and one brother-in-law, Bill Jarrett (wife Kay) of Goodyear, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Howard Eugene "Gene" Jarrett, whom she married December 14, 1941, and who preceded her in death in 1985; a great-grandson, Joshua Marcoux; and two sisters; Vivian Hayes and Wynita Prosser.
Friends may call Tuesday, February 23, 2010, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Macer-Hall Funeral Home in New Castle. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Macer-Hall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carol Wiley officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery.
