Funeral services for Clara Belle Canterbury, 85, widow of Alford Grady Canterbury, are scheduled for 4 p.m., Friday, Feb. 10, 2012 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with Pastor Troy Sikes officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Mrs. Canterbury passed away February 8, 2012 in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. She was born December 27, 1926 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Thomas and Virgie (Summers) Prestridge. She married Alford Canterbury on August 3, 1946 in Shreveport, and enjoyed life as a homemaker. A member of First Baptist Church, she was an avid fan of Aggie football. She was extremely proud of her Aggie grandchildren, making sure they always had plenty of Blue Bell ice cream on hand. Clara supported area youth by volunteering with local 4-H clubs, and enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune on t.v.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Shirley and Harold Hohlt, and Martha and Alan Pittman, all of Brenham; grandchildren: Patrick and Misty Hohlt of Farmers Branch, Michael and Sonya Hohlt of Richardson, Rachel Hohlt, and Ashlea and Justin Schroeder, all of College Station, and Megan and Chris Schramme of West Columbia; great-grandchildren: Kyle and Lauren Hohlt, Jacob and Ella Schroeder, and Baby Schramme, due in May; sisters Sophie Stevens and Mary Schule, both of Keithville, Louisiana, and sister-in-law Louise Helverson of Shreveport, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Clara was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a great-grandson, Wyatt Schroeder.
Clara's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, or to any favorite charity.
