Dr. Leroy Marion Pratt, age 84, died on December 30, 2010. Dr. Pratt was born in Ann Arbor, MI, in 1926, the fifth generation of his family to be born in Washtenaw County. His early education was at Mack, Slauson, and Ann Arbor High School, where he graduated with Honors. Two weeks after graduation, at age 17, he enlisted as a Cadet in the Navy Air Corps during World War II. He attended Western Michigan College, the University of Michigan, and graduated from its School of Dentistry. He again enlisted in the Navy, this time serving in the Dental Corps as a lieutenant (jg) during the Korean War. Private practice followed in Bellevue, MI, until he returned to Ann Arbor where he maintained a private practice while also on the faculty of the School of Dentistry. While teaching, he received the Senior Instructor of the Year award and also the Delta Sigma Delta Student -Faculty award. He truly enjoyed his interaction with his students, or the "crème de la crème" as he called them. He was married twice, first to Geraldene Steers with whom he had two children, a son, Stephen, and a daughter, Susan. He and Alicia Dwyer, his second wife and best friend, enjoyed 51 years together. She survives. Lee was a member of the American, Michigan, and Washtenaw District Dental Societies. He was also a member of Delta Sigma Delta fraternity, treasurer of the Bellevue Lions Club, Distinguished Past President of the Dexter Kiwanis Club, Secretary-Treasurer of the Kingery Prosthodontic Study Group, Board of Directors of the Dexter United Way, a member of the Dexter Historical Society, and the Ann Arbor Civil War Round Table. He was also inducted into the Emeritus Club of the University of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion L. and Emma (Luebcke) Pratt, and sister Betty Lou (Thomas) Brewster. Survivors are his beloved wife Alicia, daughter Susan Zimmerman, son Stephen, two grand-daughters, and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 2 from 2-6 p.m. at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor. Burial will take place on Monday, January 3 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Cemetery in Ann Arbor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Michigan Humane Society.
