JOHN "JACK" PRATHER

John (Jack) Prather Jr., 84, passed away peacefully, at the Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, with his loving wife of 54 years by his side. John was born to John and Bessie Prather, on the family farm, October 20, 1925.

Jack was a life long resident of Russell. He was an entrepreneur of his time; working with his brothers, they started "Prather Brothers Construction". After retiring, Jack and Frances moved into the city limits of Russell, where Jack enjoyed woodworking, fishing, mushroom hunting and flying.

Jack is survived by his wife Frances, daughter, Deb (fiance Greg) Myers of Des Moines and grandson, Justin of State College, Pennsylvania. Brothers, Bob Prather of Chariton and Doug Prather of Russell, sisters, Evelyn Kent of Osceola and Mary Brown of Des Moines.

Services were held Monday, February 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Fielding Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Chariton Cemetery. Pallbearers were Fred Staude, Zack Bedford, Glen Trusty, Mike Beaty, Mike Arnold and Greg Wagner. Honorary bearers were Don Turbot, Steve Turbot and Jeff Turbot.

Husband of Frances Cherryholmes. Son of John Preston Prather and Bessie May Brewer.
