Lenora Grace Mathews, 96, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Feb. 3, 2006, at her daughter's home in Bella Vista. She was born June 14, 1909, in Henryville, Ind., to Arthur Powell and Ercie Dinsmore Powell. She married Garth Edwin Mathews on Nov. 5, 1930, in Crawfordsville, Ind. She had lived in Bella Vista for eight years, moving form Smartsburg, Ind. She was a homemaker and worked for eight years as a proofreader at RR Donnelleys in Crawfordsville. She was a member of the Smarsburg Christian Church, the Ladies Aid, the Smartsburg Home Extension Club and the Montgomery County Homemaker Extension Chorus. She was a founder of the Smartsburg Stitchers 4-H Club, in which she was a leader for 34 years, and played on the RR Donnelleys semipro basketball team.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garth Edwin Mathews, in 1998; two brothers, Ernest Powell and Russell Powell; and a son-in-law, Clinton O'Dell.
Funeral services were held Feb. 7 at the Smartsburg Christian Church with the Rev. Don Stockford and the Rev. Dan Mathews. Burial was at the Oak Hill Grant Avenue Cemetery in Crawfordsville.
