Charles D. Porter, 81, 1490 S. County Road 150E., Connersville, died Sunday June 10, 2001, at Kindred Hospital South, Greenwood, as a result of post-operative complications. He was born March 27, 1920, in Connersville to Martin and Charlotte Griffin Porter and had lived in Connersville all his life. He attended Connersville area school and for most of his life worked as a heavy machinery operator for Fred Bunzendahl and the late Johnny Bunzendahl. He retired in 1985 from the Fayette County Highway Department after 10 years. He enjoyed yard work. Survivors include a son, Johnny E. Selm of Connersville; a daughter, Janet Houghland of Connersville; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Smith Selm, in 1988; a brother, William H. Porter; and an infant brother. Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Showalter-Blackwell-Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, 920 Central Ave., Connersville. The Rev. James Orr of Connersville has been asked to officiate. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
