Ann Mayfield Porter, of Wilmington, DE passed away December 17, 2011, due to complications associated with Alzheimer's disease.
Mrs. Porter was born in Wilmington, DE in 1936, the daughter of the late Paul Mayfield and Isabelle Gibson Mayfield. She graduated from Wilmington Friends School where she began her loving relationship of more than sixty years with John F. Porter III, who she married in 1956. She was also a graduate of Bradford Junior College.
A graceful and gifted athlete throughout her youth, she later pursued her interests in golf, tennis and squash with her many friends at Wilmington Country Club. She expressed her decorating talents by establishing a retail shop in Centerville and later a home decorating and furnishings service. Her fondness for all creatures led her to many years of service to Delaware SPCA.
Ann and her husband, of 55 years, centered their lives on their family and many friends throughout the Brandywine Valley, the Jersey Shore and Naples, Florida.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters Leslie Porter of Rockville, MD, Nina Winfield and Jamie of Wilmington, DE, Sophie Rohrer and Bob of Amherst, NH, granddaughters Brooke and Katrina Winfield, Maisy and Kylie Rohrer and grandson Jason Rohrer, sister Julia Mayfield Morrow and Ed of Memphis, TN, sisters-in-law Gail Anderson of Wilmington, DE and Joan Wideman and Ron of Ponte Vedra, FL, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Ann's life ended as she lived it, with dignity, grace and beauty. Services were held privately by the family at Christ Church, Greenville, DE, with interment at Wilmington and Brandywine Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Delaware SPCA, Route 7, Stanton, DE. 19804.
