Birth: Oct. 15, 1859
Delaware County
Indiana, USA
Death: Apr. 18, 1939
Silver Bow County
Montana, USA

Daughter of Thomas C. Poor and his wife Martha Jane Haynes from Eaton Twp, Delaware Co Indiana. After the death of her father Thomas C. Poor, the widow Martha Jane (Hayes) Poor and her daughters moved to early Butte Co MT where they ran a boardinghouse while the husbands of her daughters mined.

Martha Jane Poor, the daughter, married June 12, 1892 in Silver Bow Co MT, John Andrew 'Andy' Dougherty. The marriage license stated he was 27 born Linton, Greene Co IN to Robert W. Dougherty and wife Rebecca A. Clayton. (It also stated Martha was 29 at time of marriage which differs from given birth year). They had:

Sylvia V. Dougherty born Apr 1893 MT d. 18 March 1959 Seattle, King Co. WA married Volla Summit Patterson b. 11 Sept 1892 Jefferson Co MT.

Floyd Franklin Dougherty b. Aug 1894 Butte Co MT d. 3 Aug 1912 Butte Co MT. 18 yr old Floyd Dougherty was struck by lightning while on a fishing trip with a friend in the Big Hole basin, 40 miles from Dillon, MT. He was called 'Frank' by family. His obituary from 1912 made no mention of his father Andrew Dougherty.

Her husband John Andrew ĎAndy' Dougherty died Aug 27 1893, leaving her a widow with two young children in a state and a life (a mining city) that was completely new to her. He worked as a brakeman for the railroad and on a cold day his hands were freezing, so when the train came to stop he jumped off to go buy a pair of gloves. He jumped back on but upon starting up the train gave a big lurch and he was thrown under the train and killed. The June 9, 1900 census has her living on Madison Street, by Walker , Gallatin, Jefferson and Chicago Sts. as a 36 yr. old widow, with her own widowed mother Martha Poor (age 61) living with her and the following four children: Sylvia Dougherty, Floyd Franklin Dougherty (her own children), and a niece and nephew Ionee Perfect and Herbert Perfect who are her sister Laura (Poor) Perfect's children.

Their children grew up in the boardinghouse in Butte MT surrounded by their extended family. By 1930 Martha Jane (Poor) Dougherty had given up the boardinghouse in Butte Mt and moved to Seattle to live with her married daughter Sylvia (Dougherty) Patterson.
