JACKSON — Minister James Edward Polk, 63, of Jackson, formerly of Lynnville, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at his residence in Jackson.

Services are 12 pm Sunday, July 22, at New Hope Baptist Church at 223 Olive Street in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Ivey Chism of Jackson officiating. The body will lie-in-state from 11-12 am at the church.

Burial is in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.

V.K. Ryan & Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The Giles County native was the son of the late Clyde and Louise Ezell Polk. He was a 1962 graduate of Carver-Smith High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1966. He was a member of Happy Hill Baptist Church and later became a licensed minister at King Soloman M.B. Church. He was an electrician and worked for Tennessee Valley Authority until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Elaine Polk.

Survivors include his wife Bertha Ella Cannon Polk of Jackson; daughters Felicia (James) Scribner of Nashville and Dewayna Yvette Polk of Jackson; son Gregory Wayne Polk of Jackson; three grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Newman of Chicago, M., Linda (Darrell) Cathey of Duck River, Brenda (Tim) Gaines of Christiana; two brothers, Robert (Beverly) Polk of Indianapolis, IN, and Terry Polk of Defuniak Springs, FL; aunts Burtha Sawyers of Nashville, Florence (James) Simmons of Baltimore, MD and Rosalie Owens of Mt. Pleasant; an uncle, Willie (Alma) Martin of Nashville, several nieces nephews and other relatives and friends.
