Gordon C Plaxton was born February 15, 1916 at 107 Columbus St in Detroit, Michigan. He had one brother, Elmer Howard Plaxton, who preceded him in death. His mother and father were Ida Alvina Schultz and Joseph Morley Plaxton. Ida and Joseph were married in 1912 in Highland Park, Michigan. Gordon graduated in 1935 from Cass Tech High School in Detroit. From a very early age he was fascinated with airplanes. He became an avid model builder from the early 1930's until his death. He also did detail drawings of real planes so they could be built as models; many of these drawings were sold in his later years as collector items.
After high school Gordon attended and graduated from Chrysler Technical School. He became an excellent draftsman and detail checker for many design shops through out his working years. Gordon married Olive Mary Dutton on June 14, 1940 in Ferndale, Michigan at the First Baptist Church of Ferndale. They had three sons, Bruce, Terry and David, all born in Michigan. As a father he was very involved with his boys, from Boy Scouts, church, hobbies, etc. Dad was also an avid photographer. This has turned out to be a great asset for ancestry work, since he photographed everything and every event.
In the 1970's Gordon and Olive opened a hobby and craft business in Lakeview, Michigan. The location wasn't the best so after a couple years they folded the business and moved to Colorado. A place both Gordon and Olive loved. Even in their "retirement" they both continued to work part time at many varied jobs. i.e. hearse driver, mail curriers, mortuary caretakers, etc. While in Colorado, Gordon sang in a barbershop group for several years. They did a great deal of camping while in Colorado. In 1991 they moved back to Farmington Hills, Michigan and into a retirement complex, Detroit Baptist Manor, to be near two of their sons. They again became very involved with the people and the actives at the Manor.
With the help of Olive's sister,Lenore/Lee,they were able to take many trips and cruises. Mom and Dad moved many times after raising their boys in Ferndale, Michigan (20 years). They met and keep many friends through the years. They were married for 68 years and had a great life. They left behind three sons, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Dad's ashes were scattered by family. A cenotaph was placed in Glen Eden Memorial Cemetery in 2010. This is the same cemetery where his parents are buried.
Dad and Mom will be greatly missed.
