Rita Barnett, 87, died Sunday, March 29, 2009, at her residence. Memorial Services will be at 4:00 PM Wednesday at Myers & Smith Chapel.
She was born June 16, 1921, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Clara and Edmond Blanchard. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy High School in 1938. She then graduated from Business College. She began her career in insurance, starting in the typing pool, and worked her way up to Executive Secretary. She lived in El Paso for 44 years moving to Big Spring in 1992. After moving to Big Spring, she returned to work for four years at the Texas Department of Human Services. She also worked in the Howard County Auditors Office and the Senior Citizens Center. She was a Catholic.
She is survived by two daughters: Donna B. Lasater and her husband Dean of Big Spring, and Holly D. Lambert and her husband Werner of Grand Prairie; four grandchildren: Jennifer McMullen and her husband Jeff and Leslie Lambert, both of Grand Prairie, Debbie Benson and her husband Larry of Erie, Colorado, Diane Thompson and significant other, Marissa, of Broomfield, Colorado; five great grandchildren: Jill Benson, Aubrey Benson, Josef Martinez, Jackson McMullen, and Jeremiah Martinez; two nieces; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands: H. M. Pilcher and David Franklin Barnett; one brother: Edmond "Pee Wee" Blanchard; and one sister: Jeannie Fairchild.
