Nancy B. Pierson Adams 62 years, of Indianapolis, passed away December 23, 2005. She was born February 1, 1943 in Indianapolis to William J. and Ruth Eakin Pierson, who have preceded her in death.
Nancy was a 1960 graduate of Tech High School, where she was ranked 37th out of a graduating class of 620 and was to receive the Distinguished Tech Alumni Award in January, 2006. She was a member of Technoir, Madrical Singers, Concert Orchestra, Debate Team, Cheer Block, worked in the library for 2 years of school service and served as chairman of the Class of 1960 Reunion Committee since 1985. She completed 3 semester college course in Principals of General Insurance in 1975 - 1976 and earned the designation of Certified Professional Insurance Woman in 1976.
Nancy was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church. She was an underwriter for SafecoAmerican States Insurance Company for 30 years, retiring in 1999. She was a 40 year member and two year past president of the Indianapolis Association of Insurance Women and was named Insurance Woman of the Year in 1979. She was also a member of the National Association of Insurance Women. Nancy was past president of American States Toastmasters Club and earned the designation of Competant Toastmaster. She was named Toastmaster of the year in both 1977 and 1980. She was a charter member and past president of Chi Chapter - Alpha Omicron Alpha sorority and has held offices of secretary, treasurer and vice president. Currently, Nancy was serving as treasurer and in 2002 until 2004 served as National Parliam. She was a member, volunteer and past president of Spay-Neuter Services of Indiana, Inc., member of Face, Inc. with the Spay-Neuter Clinic, member of Moose Lodge #17, where she was in charge of the Senior Citizens Club, past president of the Indiana Underwriters Association of Indiana, Inc., member of the Indiana Insurance Comm. Committee when Indiana sponsored the National Association of Insurance Commissioners National Convention, member of the IU Varsity Club, 5 year member of the Tech High School Alumni Associaton Board of Directors, member of Brookside Chapter OES #481, member of the Indiana Republican Party and the National Republican Party, member of the American Cabaret Theater, member and secretary of the Brookside Neighbors Assocation. Nancy was very active in Insurance Organizations and Animal Organizations. She worked as a volunteer numerous times for the Pan-Am games in 1987, NCAA Final Four in 1996 and Olympic Trials for Track & Field in 1988. She performed many hours of volunteer work for her church and the American Heart Association.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St. with visitation Monday, December 26, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Nancy is survived by best friends, Elizabeth and Dennis Smalling and Godmother, Rita Ernstes. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Judith A. Pierson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Spay-Neuter Services of Indiana, Inc. or Home for Friendless Animals, or Face Spay-Neuter Clinic or the Tech High School Alumni Association.
