Obituary from the Hogg Funeral Home & Crematory (Gloucester Point, Va.) website, December 2011:

Gloucester: Ludwell Lewis Pickett, 66, died peacefully at home with family by his side on December 21, 2011, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
The son of a Navy family, Lud was born in Annapolis, Maryland, on August 29, 1945, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the United States Naval Academy on June 5, 1968. After completing his service in the US Navy, Lud went on to serve as a DOD Civilian Engineer at the Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown, Virginia, completing a total of 29 years of service to this nation.
Lud was predeceased by his parents, Ben and Katherine Pickett, as well as his sister, Courtenay McLaughlin. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha, after more than 41 years of marriage, and by his aunts, uncles, many cousins and loyal friends.
There are no plans for services at this time. Instead, Ludwell will be inurned beside his parents and sister in Gloucester's Abingdon Episcopal Church Cemetery during a private ceremony at a later date.
The family wishes to thank wholeheartedly Dr. Robert T. Davis and his staff at Riverside Internal Medicine Associates of Gloucester, the staff at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Gloucester, Dr. Brian J. Kaplan and his staff at Virginia Commonwealth University Surgical Oncology, Dr. John F. Miller and his staff - especially Registered Nurse Joanne Julian - at Peninsula Cancer Institute of Gloucester and Williamsburg, Dr. Ronald Haggerty and his staff - especially Registered Nurse Teresa Hogge and Certified Nursing Assistant Lydia Foster - at Riverside Walter Reed Hospice, and Eugene Morris at Riverside Pharmacy and Medical Equipment. Their great love and attention towards Ludwell brought him a quality of comfort and care that is immeasurable and their love and concern for the family was, and remains, boundless.
In Ludwell's memory, donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, 2nd Floor, Bethesda, MD 20814, or to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice, P. O. Box 1130, Gloucester, Virginia 23061.
