Leonard Virgil Pickett, 64, died Friday in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital.. A native of West Virginia, he lived in Poplar Branch for 20 years. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Pickett. He was an employee of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and a veteran of World War II. He retired from the Navy in 1951 after 30 years service. He was a prisoner of war for three years in the Philippines. He was a member of Coinjock Masonic Lodge, and the husband of Louise Gallop Pickett. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lenora Dowdy of Poplar Branch, and Mrs. Donna Gregory of Norfolk; a son, J.J. Pickett of Poplar Branch; a sister, Mrs. Bernice Ward, of Columbus, Ohio, and six grandchildren. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Dowdy of Poplar Branch. The body was taken to Twiford Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, at 2 P.M. in Ft. Myers Cemetery, Arlington, with full military honors.
