Funeral for Willodean (Pickens) McWhorter, 81, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home. Ray McWhorter, O.D. Bowling, Mike Nix and Steve Chandler will be officiating.
Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. McWhorter, who died Jan. 23, 2010, at Decatur General Hospital, was born April 29, 1928, in Moulton to Will and Edna Pickens. Willodean was a resident of Cedar Springs independent living in Decatur. Mrs. McWhorter was a member of the Beltline Church of Christ. She was a faithful Christian for over 50 years and brought her children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. She supported her husband, Kyle, as he preached the gospel for over 44 years, serving several congregations in North Alabama. Mrs. McWhorter worked as an LPN at the Lawrence County Hospital and the Moulton Nursing Home. Her greatest joy was caring for her family. She was preceded in death by one son, Gordon Kyle McWhorter; three brothers, Curtis, Hayward and Bobby Pickens; and three sisters, Louise Stevenson, Ruby Pickens and Rena Pickens.
Survivors include her husand, Kyle; two daughters, Mary Lynn Nix (Mike) and Janet Smith (Wayne); one sister-in-law, Betty Pickens; three grandchildren, Marie Darnell (Jay), Stephanie Bedsole (Jay) and Natalie Nix; three great-grandchildren, Brantley Darnell, Parker Darnell and Abby Kate Bedsole; and two nieces, Pam Danley (Larry) and Nancy Rutledge.
Pallbearers will be Brantley Darnell, Jay Darnell, Jay Bedsole, Bill McWhorter, Tim McWhorter, Ricky McWhorter, Max McWhorter and Gordon Ray.
