Died September 14, 1995
Nellie Pickens Akins, 84, of Riceville, died early this morning at McMinn Memorial Nursing Home.
A lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a member of Clay Hill Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Reece and Emma Hall Pickens, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Akins; two sisters, Nola Pickens Akins and Sue Pickens Rogers; three brothers, Clyde Pickens, Jessie Pickens and Ray Pickens; and a grandson, Michael Akins.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Arnold and Ann Akins of Pauline, S.C., Bill and Fay Akins of Riceville, and Steve and Sandy Akins of Athens; one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Poley Davis of Etowah; a brother, Bob Pickens of North Carolina; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Hensley officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jones Chapel Cemetery for graveside services.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
