Mrs. Phelps, Old Resident of This City, Passes Away
Miss Caroline S. Phelps, died at 6 o’clock last evening after a lingering illness, at the age of 78 years. She had been in declining health for the past year, but it was not until five weeks ago that her condition was considered critical. Chronic bronchitis, accompanied by a general breaking down, had undermined her strength and she gradually sank to the end.
Miss Phelps was born in Sharon, Scoharie county, N. Y., on August 9, 1835. At an early age, she moved with her parents to Wisconsin, and later to Illinois. From the latter state she came west, and since 1874 had lived in Wyoming.
Miss Phelps was beloved by all who knew her, and her death will be widely mourned.
She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Martin of this city, and Mrs. Helen Shadbolt of Plymouth, Wis., and one brother, Mr. Judson Phelps of White City, Kansas.
Miss Phelps was an aunt of Mrs. George H. Gilland, with whom she had made her home for the past 12 years. The funeral will occur from the residence at 2:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon.
