A Funeral Mass, officiated by Reverend Henry Schmidt, was held on April 15, 1999, at the Church of the Little Flower in Springfield, Illinois, for Mary Magdalene "Lee" (Pfeffer) Carnes, age 88. Burial followed at the Calvary Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois, with the Stabb Funeral Home of Springfield in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Carnes was born on April 28, 1910, at Engelberg, Arkansas, to Francis and Mary (Rotzinger) Pfeffer.
She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, James Hugh Carnes and seven brothers, Alphonse, Frankie, Frank, Paul, Lawrence and Joseph Pfeffer and a sister, Frances Sorg.
She was survived by two daughters; Catherine C. Hostick of Plano, Texas, and Mary Ellen Tulipana of Kansas City, Missouri; one son, Jerome J. Carnes of Kings Mountain, North Carolina; two sisters: Josephine Thielemier and Marie Thielemier, both of Pocahontas, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Carnes had been a resident of Kansas City, Missouri, since 1991. She was a member of the Church of the Little Flower and was a homemaker.
