Miss Franklin Is Married To Lester Pettit

Miss Joy Elizabeth Franklin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry David Franklin of Swannanoa, was married to Lester Pettit. son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Pettit of 169 Laurel Loop, Saturday afternoon in the Swannanoa Baptist Church.
The Rev. Nane Starnes officiated, and a program of wedding music was presented by Mrs. Gilmer Weatherly, pianist, and Doug Bolton, vocalist. The vows were spoken before a background of evergreens interspersed with white flowers and candles.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of ivory satin made along princess lines with Chantilly lace yoke and sleeves. The yoke was embroidered with pearls, and the full skirt ended in a long train. Her long length veil of tulle was attached to a coronet of seed pearls. She carried a Testament carried by her father in the First World War. The Testament was topped with a purple-throated orchid showered with flowers.
Mrs. Ray S. Moore of Memphis, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a flowered organdy dress of light blue and a Juliet cap covered with daisies and sweet peas. She carried a basket made of mixed garden flowers.
Miss Frances Pettit, sister of the hride-groom, Miss Catherine Wilhide of Atlanta, cousin of the bride, and Mrs. Roy L. Morris of Morganton were bridesmaids. They wore gowns like that of the matron of honor in shades of pink. aqua and yellow. They carried baskets made of mixed garden flowers.
Joan Barnwell was flower girl, and wore a frock of blue organdy. Bobbie Pettit, nephew of the bridegroom, was ringbearer.
Lecil Pettit. twin brother of the bridegroom, was best man, and ushers were Murphy and Carroll Pettit. brothers of the bridegroom, and Ray S. Moore of Memphis, brother-in-law of the bride.
Following the ceremony a reception was held in the home of the bride. Asisting in entertaining were Mrs. Rex Sprinkle of Lynchburg, Va., aunt of the bride, Mrs. Edwin B. Davis of Morganton, Mrs. Lawrence Wainscott, Mrs. Bill Branwell, Miss Dot Jaquins and Mrs. Richard Goodman.
The bride's mother wore a gown of crushed raspberry crepe with a lavendar orchid, and the bridegroom's mother wore a navy blue and white print crepe dress with a lavendar orchid.
After the reception the couple left by motor for a wedding trip to Daytona Beach. For traveling the bride wore a navy blue linen two-piece dress with gray and pink accessories and an orchid corsage.
Mr. and Mrs. Pettit will reside in West Asheville.
Mrs. Pettit is a graduate of Swannanoa High School and Mars Hill College. Mr. Pettit was graduated from Lee Edwards High School and is employed at the Veterans Hospital at Oteen.
