Helen was born in Deweese, Nebraska, May 27, 1922, to John Jacob and Mary Ann (Karmazin) Petr. On May 9, 1946, she married Gerald E. Hansen in Deweese. The couple was planning a celebration in May for their Golden Anniversary.
Helen was a 1939 graduate of Deweese High and later the Business College in Hastings. She worked at the A.A.A. Farm Office in Nelson for four years and was a Civil Service employee at various places in Nebraska and Michigan for 45 years. Helen retired from Offutt Air Base in Bellevue. She was first diagnosed with cancer eight years ago.
Preceding her in death was one grandson, Cameron.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald; four sons, Ron and his wife Linda of Lincoln, Nebraska, Gary and his wife Darlyn of Wahoo, Nebraska, Roger of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Duane and his wife Sandy of Omaha, Nebraska; two daughters, Mrs. John (Jeanette) Ketola of Gwinn, Michigan, and Deborah Judy of Fairfax, Virginia; one sister, Rose Hansen of Deweese, Nebraska; three brothers, George Petr and Edward Petr, both of Hastings, Nebraska, and Emil Petr of Brazil; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Vigil was at the Bellevue Memorial Chapel Friday evening. Funeral Mass and services were held Saturday, March 2, 1996, at St. Mary's Church in Bellevue, with concelebrants Mgsr. Ivan Vap of Lincoln, Father Jerry Vap of McCook, both cousins of Mrs. Hansen, and Father Tom War of Bellevue. Pallbearers were John Petr, Don Petr, Ray Hansen, Jim Hansen, Dan Hansen and Paul Hansen. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.
